Simplifying IT - Computer Port Service Blocks

Computer Port offers full network administration services including domains, workgroups, file sharing, security, and redundant backup.  We have A+, MCSE and CCNA certified technicians on staff, covering all Microsoft operating systems up to and including Server 2008.  We take a proactive approach to maintaining network stability and security.  The vast majority of issues are stopped before becoming a disruption through the application of service packs, virus definitions, and firewall updates.

Computer Port Builds high quality workstations and servers from what we call “non-proprietary architecture”.  This means our computers are readily serviced and upgraded with nearly any component or peripheral.  All building, service and upgrading of our computers is done at our North Conway location.  All Computer Port computers come with a one year onsite hardware warranty.

Computer Port maintains, supports, repairs, and upgrades any other brand computer.  No matter the brand, we can do any service required either onsite or at our North Conway location.

We have a variety of options available for onsite support.  Service Blocks are also available in a variety of sizes and include telephone and email support.  Prepaid service blocks are a way that a customer can gain the benefits of a rate discount by purchasing a block of time in advance. This is suitable for customers that know they are going to need support on a regular basis. Time blocks can be purchased as blocks of 10, 20, 50 or 100 hours depending on need. When the customer gets near the end of the time block, they may purchase another block or consider one of the other service plans based on the usage recorded during the period.

Prepaid service blocks are a valuable business solution for prevention and maintenance of office networks, servers and systems.  Avoid the trouble of creating individual purchase orders or handling multiple invoices resulting from many visits, and have the security of knowing a professional technician, a dependable, local and trustworthy partner.

The full range of maintenance and support services provided by Computer Port can be obtained with prepaid blocks.  Service Block customers have priority status over other customers in regards to response time.  Block time may be applied to any location a customer needs, however travel time is billable after 15 miles.  Fees cover labor charges only and do not cover the purchase of any hardware or software.  Service Blocks can be started on receipt of payment in full.  Service Blocks may be renewed at any time, and they expire two years from the date of purchase.

Internet Safety

Safer Kid Computing

“We don’t need a scare campaign, but we do need to educate kids about the basic rules of Internet safety.” – Michael J. Miller, PC Magazine

We need to teach our children that the Internet is like a very large city. There are lots of good things, some bad things, and a few very bad people.

Teens may be posting too much personal information online. They should never give out their home address and phone number online, should be particularly careful in chat rooms, and never meet with anyone who approaches them in a chat room, especially without parents around.

Consider Using These Guidelines in Your Home

Purchase a Comprehensive Anti-virus / Anti-Spyware Software Product - Free downloadable anti-virus software and spyware sweeping programs often provide the most basic protection, unlike of the paid-for editions which will provide the fullest protection with automatic updates and scheduled hard disk sweeps.

Enforce a Common Area - Always make sure children use the computer in an area where you can easily keep an eye on them.

Use a Timer Use a time-based method to prevent Internet use (or computer use) during off hours.  It’s built into Windows Vista’s User Accounts (even generates user-activity reports for you), and also in most parental-control software. You may even find a setting in your network router.

Limit Gaming - You limit their time on the PC, so limit their time on game consoles also.  Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii can limit kids’ play based on ESRB ratings for games. Xbox also sets limits based on MPAA ratings for DVDs. PlayStation 3 has different restriction levels. (Reset that default password of 0000, or Junior will reset it for you.) Xbox Live now includes a family timer, to prevent too much gaming per day or per week.

Your Teens Are Smarter than You - Teens find out fast if a parental control is limited to a certain kind of browser or software and will just download something new to avoid the restrictions their parents have imposed on their Internet browsing and instant messaging activities.

Beware of any new Internet software - especially if it has been installed without your permission. Most “freeware” and “file sharing” Internet software must be actively installed by the user. By doing so, you can give that same software permission to be ignored from being monitored by your computer’s anti-virus software.
